Merson Believes Arsenal Could Be Two Decades Away From Winning Premier League Title

Ex-Gunners midfielder Paul Merson thinks Arsenal are a long way from competing for the Premier League title once again.

When asked about the future prospects of his former club, the TV pundit said he doesn’t believe they will lift the trophy in the next two decades:

“What do you think? 20 years. They’re a million miles away at the moment and the way it is going right now they probably need seven players to compete. I don’t see them winning again for a long, long time.”

Unai Emery’s side are currently 13 points off league leaders Liverpool, and three points off fourth place Chelsea.

They also face a difficult tie in the FA Cup after being drawn against Manchester United in the fourth round, following Saturday’s 3-0 win versus Blackpool.

Their best chance of a trophy this season could be the Europa League. They are currently second favourites for the competition behind Chelsea, with Coral having them at 6/1.

The Gunners face BATE Borisov in the last 32 stage with the first leg scheduled to take place on the 14th February in Belarus, with the return fixture coming a week later at the Emirates.
