Maxime Gonalons Ready To Leave Lyon?

Transfer rumors have been linking various players to Arsenal since they announced an increased transfer budget. The Gunners are looking to find glory after an 8 year losing streak that really has taken the shine off the club’s prestige. Many established players have decided to leave Emirates in order to finally win some trophies. Wenger never was the coach to spend massive money on signing footballers and that showed especially when competing against teams that make massive investments every year. Even though the Frenchman managed to always keep up with Premier League giants, he has failed to hit a home run in recent seasons. The lack of experience that came with Arsenal’s youngsters influenced results and left Gunners’ fans disappointed several times over the past 8 years.

Wenger has managed to get his team in the final stages of the Champions League and fought for the Premier League title, but always finished second or third. This year was the same, but came with a slight revelation for the Frenchman, whose contract will expire at the end of the year. After a harsh defeat at home against Bayern Munich Wenger decided that it is time for a change and some major names must be brought in, in order to finally win competitions.

Fans were very happy to hear the good news and are eager to see what the club’s plans are for next season. According to Metro, the latest name that is seriously linked to Arsenal comes from France. Maxime Gonalons’s name has been on Wenger’s mind for quite a while now. He is a promising young defensive midfielder that at 23 years of age could fit perfectly within the Frenchman’s team. Gonalons would seem like the perfect candidate to patrol in front of the back four and would allow others such as Arteta to play in their preferred roles. Preliminary talks have already started even if according to rumors, Lyon’s player has been monitored for the past 12 months.

This transfer will not be a simple one considering the fact that Wenger has a very poor relationship with Lyon’s president. Maxime Gonalons is valued at 15 million pounds and would be a great addition to Arsenal’s current squad. His contract expires in 2016 but the Gunners look keen on putting together a new squad in which the 23 year old, Gonalons would not look out of place. Don’t be surprised if he arrives at the Emirates this summer as Gonalons seems like he will fit in with Wenger’s style well but it will not be easy to sign him as he is very highly regarded in Lyon where he is the club captain and they would like to keep him to build their next Championship team around.
