Massive Financial Developments At Arsenal

We recently reported that the North London club is sitting comfortably on a massive cash reserve of a £123 million, out of which around £70 million will be available for manager Arsene Wenger to bring in new faces to the Emirates Stadium in the summer.

This is a huge amount of money for a club that has not been able to compete for silverware in recent years, however the current scenario at Arsenal is a financial work of art by the Arsenal board, given their not-so-long-ago move to the new Emirates Stadium.

Wenger has struggled to compete for top talent against the cash of clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City, which is the reason why the Gunners have been somewhat left behind in the race for trophies over the last 8 years. A lack of cash available to Wenger, coupled with the Frenchman’s philosophy of not paying severely inflated transfer fees for a player has proved to be testing for Arsenal.

Some fans are not totally convinced of Wenger’s philosophy of nurturing the youth players, and giving them a chance to grow rather than buying a player straight from the top drawer.

A lack of trophies has seen the club lose its top players year after year, which further weakens the team’s chances of ending their trophy drought. However, this trend could soon be a thing of the past in the coming few months, as this new found cash at Wenger’s disposal could be the solution to all their problems.

The new cash injected over the last few months has resulted in Arsenal being linked with top players across Europe. They have been linked to Napoli’s giant forward Edinson Cavani, and some unconfirmed reports also suggested that Arsenal have made a massive £30 million bid for his services. Also, they were interested in Barcelona’s Spanish hitman David Villa in January; however, the Catalan giants simply refused to sell in the middle of the season. There are still rumors suggesting that Villa could arrive in England in the summer.

Now, the rumor mills are churning out stories stating that Wenger is closely monitoring Seria A side Fiorentina’s 23-year old striker Stevan Jovetic, along with young German star Mario Gotze, currently plying his trade at Borussia Dortmund. A £30 million approach is believed to be being prepared for a summer bid for Gotze.

As we expect new faces to arrive at Arsenal, there are also a few faces which we expect to leave the club, which could in fact turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Forgotten man Andrei Arshavin, who is one of Arsenal’s top earners at a reported £90,000-per-week contract, could reduce Arsenal’s wage bills drastically if the club decides to sell him. Same goes for squad players like Sebastien Squilacci, Johan Djourou, Marouane Chamakh, Park Chu-Young and Andre Santos.

Selling this dead wood could very well pave the way for new, top players at the Emirates. A massive squad overhaul at Arsenal looks in the pipeline. Do you see these huge changes taking place? And if they do, is this the answer to the prayers of every Arsenal fan?
