Manchester United vs Arsenal: Match Preview and Predictions

Unfortunately this game does not come at the right time for Arsenal who would prefer to focus on next week’s game against Atletico but they do need to secure points in their remaining 4 games to ensure that Burley do not overtake them.

Arsenal’s current League position sends them into next year’s Europa League.

There’s also a chance for 7th place to get a spot in the Europa League if United win the FA Cup, so next season’s European campaign is secured one way or another with the chance of Champions League qualification still a possibility if they can win the Europa League.

All that is left in terms of motivation for Sunday’s game at Old Trafford is that this is a fierce rivalry which has delivered classic Premier League games over the years and the desire to see Wenger leave Arsenal with a win against Mourinho.

Everyone knows they have not been the best of friends over the years but the United boss has seemingly offered an olive branch to Wenger after complimenting the Frenchman on his career and speaking of the desire to be friends with him in the future following the announcement of Arsene leaving the Emirates.

A Gunners win would also be a massive boost to morale and confidence ahead of the most important game of the season at this point in time which is the 2nd leg of the semi-final against Atletico Madrid in Spain next week.

Mourinho

It’s hard to tell what Wenger’s plans are but it would be safe to say he is leaning towards having a squad as complete and fit as possible for next Thursday. A win vs Atletico would bring them just one game away from playing in the Champions League next year which again could be a nice way for Wenger to say goodbye.

With all that in mind, we might well see Wenger ringing the changes. Aside from Cazorla (who in great news is back training with the club), Elneny is definitely out, while Mkhitaryan looks like he will be available after recovering from injury but all other players should be available so it will come down to who needs a rest.

Lacazette looked sharp vs Atletico and should have scored early in the first half vs Madrid and had other chances later and his goal was a sweet header right into the very corner of the goal after he made a great leap to beat the defence in the air. The French striker will likely get the nod again at least from the bench but we see him starting again along with the returning Aubameyang.

United have a full squad available and will surely be looking for a win to secure 2nd for this PL season so there will be no let-up or sentiment from them especially on home soil.

We predict Wenger will make some changes and go with a starting line-up of:

Cech

Bellerin, Holding, Koscielny, Kolasinac

Xhaka, Wilshere, Maitland-Niles

Ozil, Aubameyang, Lacazette

Given the current situation and the passion involved in the game we are going against most predictions and we see Arsenal putting on a great performance for Arsene Wenger and pulling off an unlikely 2-1 win which would be a huge shock as Manchester United are big favourites with the bookies at 4/9, with a draw at 15/4 and an Arsenal win at 7/1.
