Liverpool Tell Arsenal To Break Transfer Record For Suarez

Arsenal have been showing genuine interest in Suarez as they are determined to add top quality to their squad this summer and with a huge bank balance to support them, they have been flexing their financial muscle and making big money moves for players who they are going after.

They have been linked with Suarez heavily since the last fortnight, and Liverpool have admitted that they have had two offers for the Uruguayan from the Gunners. The first one was revealed to be worth a huge £35 million, while the second one was an improved and a cheeky bid of £40 million plus £1 which just about meets the striker’s release clause.

Both the bids were rejected by Liverpool who have maintained throughout the saga that their star striker is not for sale. However their stance has changed in the last couple of days, as they are now willing to let him go, provided they get a transfer fee which is worthy of Suarez’s quality. Rodgers compared Suarez as an equal to his Uruguayan compatriot Edinson Cavani who joined Paris Saint-Germain for £55 million only recently. Therefore, even Rodgers is now keen to accept a bid for Suarez only in that region.

Therefore,Metro reports that he has now thrown Arsenal an open challenge to break the British transfer record which currently stands at £50 million which Liverpool received from Chelsea for Fernando Torres. He spoke to the press while their pre-season tour where he said, “If Arsenal want the player, then they have to produce the value for the player,”

“There was an offer two weeks ago of £35m. Two weeks later it is now £40million and £1 — I don’t think it is anywhere near what he is worth.”

“But it is two-fold, really. A player may want to go but then somebody has to pay the value of that player.”

With Rodgers laying out his terms and conditions on the table, what will Arsenal do? Will they take that final step and bow down to Liverpool’s demands, or will they look elsewhere? With Higuain now signing for Napoli it is beginning to be a case of where else can Arsenal look for a truly top class striker?
