Saint-Etienne sent a scout to watch Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun play for the Under 23s last week, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claims the Ligue One side are weighing up a potential loan offer for the 20-year-old, who has struggled for minutes in Mikel Arteta’s first team this season.

Balogun did start against Brentford on the opening day but he has made just two appearances since then, and it is apparent that he is simply too good to be playing at Under 23 level.

The England Under 21 international has bagged 14 goals in 10 Premier League 2 matches, including a hat-trick against Derby on Friday night.

A switch to the Championship has been speculated with Middlesbrough reportedly leading the likes of Swansea City and Bournemouth in the race for Balogun’s signature. However, Saint-Etienne would give the striker a different option.

The French club sit near the bottom of Ligue One, but Balogun may still feel it would be a greater challenge playing in one of Europe’s top divisions.
