Lichtsteiner confirms Arsenal talks

Out-of-contract defender Stephan Lichtsteiner has admitted he is in talks with Arsenal over a free transfer to the Emirates this summer.

The Juventus defender’s contract will expire in July and with the Swiss international having no plans to retire, the search for a new club begins.

New boss Unai Emery needs several defensive recruits, and the experienced 34-year-old would be a fantastic signing for the Gunners – even if he was to sign for a single season.

However, despite the heavy rumours, the Switzerland captain says nothing is completed yet and says his current focus is on the World Cup.

“Nothing is finished yet,” he said. “I cannot comment on the negotiations.

“As long as nothing is completed, that is always interesting in football. I think we all know that.”

Arsenal have been linked with a host of new signings this summer, but Lichtsteiner might not be the only free transfer to arrive at the Emirates, as reports this week claim Marouane Fellaini has been holding talks with Arsenal as his Manchester United contract nears its expiration also.
