Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Gabriel is a major doubt for the game against Newcastle next week.
The Brazilian international had to be substituted during the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham after picking up a muscular injury, and he is now in a race against time to be fit for Monday’s fixture.
Despite Rob Holding being sent off in the North London derby, Arteta did not send on Ben White despite the centre-back being named on the bench.
The defender had not taken part in a full training session before the match against Spurs, so the decision was made not to risk him. It will be hoped that he will be ready to start at St James’ Park.
Thomas Partey is back in individual training but the Ghanaian is not expected to be back before the final match of the season versus Everton, as he continues his recovery from a thigh problem.
Kieran Tierney won’t play again this campaign, with the Scottish international having undergone knee surgery at the beginning of last month.
