Arsenal forward and club-record signing Alexandre Lacazette has revealed that he held talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a potential move to the Parc des Princes this summer.
Lacazette joined the Gunners for a fee of around £50m during the summer transfer window, but they had to fend off competition from various big clubs around Europe. PSG in particular would be a difficult offer for anyone to turn down, but the 26-year-old striker insists he would only play for Lyon if he stayed in France.
Lacazette told RMC Sport: “We talked to PSG but I knew it was not where I wanted to go. In France, I would only play for Lyon.”
“PSG could have helped me progress because they of the big players they have but I wanted to play in another league.”
The forward has been relatively good so far for the Gunners, scoring 4 goals in his first 7 Premier League appearances. However, all his goals have come from the Emirates – something the Frenchman admits he has to rectify.
“In the Emirates, I have been efficient. Now I have to keep going and have the same stats away from home,” the No.9 added.
“I still have to work on some points, even if it’s going well. I can still develop my relationships with my midfielders and defenders.”
“I also want to become stouter in front of goal because in England the referee does not whistle.”
