Atletico Madrid have entered the running to sign Arsenal attacking midfielder Aaron Ramsey, according to reports in Spain.

The Welsh international’s contract expires in the summer, and he can talk to foreign clubs as early as January about a free transfer move at the end of the season.

Ramsey is reportedly seeking a sizeable increase on his £110,000 a week wages, but reports in the English media today suggest the Gunners will not offer the 27-year-old improved terms, paving the way for the midfielder to leave the club.

When asked about the Welshman’s contract situation, following the club’s 3-1 win over Brentford last night, manager Unai Emery said that he is only focusing on the player’s performance on the pitch:

“The performance and the commitment of the players Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck is very high. The situation they are in with the club is one thing for the club and for them.”

Ramsey has started five out of six Premier League games under the new Gunners boss so far, providing assists for both goals in the 2-0 victory over Everton last weekend. After being named on the bench yesterday, he will likely be reinstated to the starting lineup for the game against Watford on Saturday.
