Kudos For Not Giving In To Market Pressure As Arsenal Retain Sanchez After 92million Deal For Lemar Falls Through

This has been an extremely volatile transfer window with player prices going through the roof just as Wenger predicted. Everyone can tell this is the time to sell if you are interested in making money. Despite that, Arsenal refused to let Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil leave.

Manchester City made a serious offer £60 million bid to the Emirates for Alexis Sanchez but was turned down by Wenger after the deal was originally agreed. Why? Because the Frenchman became aware that no suitable replacement could be found at that point in time.

There was talk about Thomas Lemar’s transfer and a £92 million bid made for the France and Monaco star and apparently the bid was accepted by Monaco but Lemar who was on duty for France in a World Cup qualifier yesterday vs the Netherlands (where he scored two goals to underline his class) felt that there was not enough time for him to consult his family over such a big move so he opted to stay in Monaco.

Some may argue that it is a waste to keep a player who could leave for free at the end of the season but is that really the case? Wenger made a smart choice in keeping him. The 28-year-old is good enough to still generate income in the winter as well.

The winter window may see prices drop for players who are in the last year of their contracts but will surely maintain a stable level for names like Alexis Sanchez.

According to the Mirror, Guardiola will not give up on the former Barcelona man and will return with a bid in January. By then Arsenal should be pretty aware of what is the direction they are heading in this season – will they focus on the Premier League title, the Europa League, both?

The same goes for Ozil who was rumoured to be being courted by Barcelona. There was no prospect of replacing Ozil or Sanchez at the eleventh hour of the window. Let them wait at least until the winter.

Even if many have criticised Arsenal for their transfer policy this summer, there is more to a transfer window than buying players. The Gunners managed to maintain some squad strength and even if Sanchez wanted to leave, he is the type of player who will always give 100% so he will soon endear himself to the Arsenal faithful again.
