Koscielny Praised Ahead Of Time

According to the Daily Mail, Koscielny was subject of an editorial that was written before France faced Ukraine in their first play-off game, in which Arsenal’s player was praised for his consistency and humble attitude while evolving for both the Gunners and France’s national team. Unfortunately for the people who wrote that piece, the Frenchman became one of the most criticized players after the match ended. He gave away a penalty and was sent off just a few minutes before the final whistle leaving Deschamps with a tough choice to make for the game to come.

Fortunately for Wenger’s defender, France managed to win their home game with a three goal difference and qualify for the World Cup in Brazil. Koscielny’s absence could have been an issue considering he was replaced by Evra who plays best when used as a wing-back. Les Bleus were well organized by Deschamps though and made fans forget about the Gunner’s poor performance which could have cost them the opportunity of reaching the most important international football competition in the world.

Hopefully Koscielny will get his act together quickly considering Wenger does not have a lot of options when it comes to Arsenal’s defense. The French international stared in 16 matches up to now and is currently the most reliable solution for dealing with the opponents offensive lines. With him and Mertesacker in front of Szczęsny, the Gunners conceded just 10 goals which is what has made them keep first place in the Premier League standings up until now.

Wenger’s 28 year old player is a fan favorite at the Emirates. He moved to North London 3 years ago and made his debut against Liverpool. Koscielny was sent off during his first match after seeing the red card in the 94th minute. Even so, he rapidly became a team regular putting in some impressive performances against teams like Barcelona and Chelsea.

If the Frenchman continues his excellent performances he will have the chance of finally winning his first important trophy. Unfortunately for him he only started playing for France in 2011 and has had no luck with Arsenal who have not won anything in 8 years.
