Koscielny Could Leave Arsenal

Laurent Koscielny could be on his way out of the club, after his agent claimed interest from the biggest clubs in Europe including Spanish giants Barcelona and German champions Bayern Munich.

Arsene Wenger has been struggling for the past few years in convincing his biggest players to stay at the club, after continual frustration due to lack of trophies. High profile players like Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song are just some of the names who have not been convinced about the club’s ambitions for challenging the highest honors.

In the latest set of media reports, Koscielny could be tempted in a move to one of the clubs that win trophies on a regular basis. The Frenchman has been part of the core of the side, paired regularly with German international Per Mertesacker. The duo have primarily been the reason for Arsenal’s revival in this past season. The club were in a tough spot, when they were challenged by city rivals Tottenham Hotspur for the UEFA Champions League spot. The club’s supporters were very appreciative of the player’s performances and would want him to stay.

This comes as bad news for Arsenal fans, who would be having a feeling of déjà vu, having seen their former heroes depart. This news comes as an alert for Wenger, who will have to speed up the transfer process for his targets. It is important that the current crop of players realize the ambitions of the club, and the only way of doing that is by introducing world class talents.

According to Metro, it was Koscielny’s agent, Stephane Courbis, who revealed the news to the press.

When questioned about reported interest from the two giant clubs in this transfer window, Courbis said, “There is interest. I know that Laurent is part of a shortlist of three or four players for both clubs.”

This statement comes on the back of Koscielny making an appeal in recent months about his desperation to win a championship. Especially at the age of 27, Koscielny is probably playing the best football of his career, and Wenger will have to prove to the defender that he has trophies ahead of him if he stays at the club.
