Kolasinac deal is the perfect start to Arsenal’s crucial summer

Arsenal’s campaign this term has been lacklustre to say the least and the Gunners are under intense pressure to improve their ranks this summer and increase their chances of enjoying success in the Premier League next season.

Arsene Wenger’s side face a busy close-season as they must improve their squad whilst ensuring key players do not leave, as the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are set to enter the final 12 months of their current deals.

The Gunners need to ensure the core of their squad is kept intact and they also need to move on the market swiftly to secure top quality targets- which is why the early swoop for Schalke’s Sead Kolasinac is the perfect piece of business to kick off Arsenal’s summer.

Bosnian ace Kolasinac will arrive this summer on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with the Bundesliga side and Arsenal won a fierce battle for the 23-year-old’s signature, as the likes of Manchester City and Everton were also credited with interest.

The arrival of Kolasinac will strengthen one of Arsenal’s weakest areas within the squad as they have endured issues at left-back, with Nacho Monreal struggling for consistency in the twilight years of his career and Kieran Gibbs failing to stake a claim for regular opportunities.

Kolasinac will also slot in perfectly to the three-man defence that Arsenal have adopted to great success in recent weeks, as the Bosnian will excel as a flying wing-back; creating problems for the opposition and also proving to be resilient in his defensive duties.

Arsenal’s summer business is far from done though and additional signings need to be made to push the Gunners towards being a more competitive side next season, with Wenger still needing to sign a top-class striker and potentially having to replace key-men, but the deal for Kolasinac is the ideal start.

Kolasinac has made 25 appearances for Schalke in the Bundesliga this season, scoring three goals and securing five assists, with many considering him to be one of the best full-backs within German football over the course of the last year.

He’s not afraid to shy from a tackle and will add grit to Arsenal’s line-up, especially with Granit Xhaka also in the side, but his disciplinary record is impressive as the youngster is yet to be sent off in his professional career to date.

With Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding creating a solid three-man defence, Kolasinac can play a key-role at wing-back with either Hector Bellerin or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain impressing on the opposite side.
