Key Arsenal Star A Major Injury Doubt Heading Into Burnley Clash

Arsenal have confirmed that midfielder Granit Xhaka may not be fit to play against Burnley this weekend. The club revealed the 26-year-old has sustained bruising to the lower back and leg and will be assessed ahead of the match at the Emirates.

The Swiss international took the captain’s armband for the 1-0 win against Newcastle on Sunday and played the full 90 minutes, but it appears he picked up the knock during the game.

Xhaka is one of three captains in manager Unai Emery’s “captaincy group.” Nacho Monreal and Mesut Ozil are the other two players that will also lead out the side this season.

If Xhaka doesn’t recover in time for Saturday, Monreal will likely wear the armband, with Ozil not likely to feature for the Gunners. Both the German and his teammate Sead Kolasinac have reportedly returned to training but Emery has said he is unsure when they will play for the club again.
