Keown Reveals The Player Who Is The “Glue” That Is Keeping This Arsenal Side Together

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has had an excellent start to life at the Emirates with many praising him for his early season performances.

He was once again in the thick of the action when the Gunners drew 1-1 with Liverpool at the weekend.

Torreira covered a lot of ground as he performed a screening job ahead of Arsenal’s defence, whilst also setting up attacks with incisive passes, and former defender Martin Keown says the 22-year-old is playing a crucial role in the team:

“We used to use our midfielders as barriers. That’s what Torreira does. He could be the glue for this Arsenal team.”

The Uruguayan international was slowly introduced into the first team by manager Unai Emery, but he is now an integral figure in the heart of the London club’s midfield.

Arsenal had the lion’s share of possession against the Reds, with much of that down to Torreira and his ability to get about the pitch and close down opposition attacks.

Alongside Granit Xhaka, the pair are proving to be a very effective partnership, making the team a lot more solid in the middle of the park.
