Keown Calls On Arteta To Give Arsenal Stopper “Another Opportunity” Amid Claims He’s Up For Sale

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown thinks that Mikel Arteta should consider keeping Rob Holding this summer.

There have been reports that the Gunners will be listening to offers for the 24-year-old, along with Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi, but Keown feels the Englishman should be offered more chances at the Emirates:

“Holding’s been injured, it’s hard to judge him, probably deserves another opportunity. I think that Sokratis could be a useful defender but I can understand the uncertainty of giving David Luiz a new deal.”

Holding’s Arsenal career is a difficult one to judge. Barring a purple patch before picking a serious knee injury last season, he hasn’t really looked that convincing.

However, despite being at the club for almost four years, the centre-back has only made 69 appearances so he may need a longer run in the first team in order to show what he can do.

With William Saliba returning from his loan spell, and Pablo Mari expected to be signed on a permanent basis, though, there doesn’t really seem to be a way for Holding to get back into Arteta’s first-team plans so a departure may be best for all parties.
