“Keeping An Eye” Romano Suggests Arsenal Could Still Make Move For 21M Rated French Midfield Maestro

Arsenal and Tottenham both remain interested in signing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

It was assumed that the Gunners’ purchase of Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid would lead to them cooling their interest in the Frenchman but Romano says that is not the case:

“It is a complicated situation on agent’s side, and that’s why I would keep an eye on Aouar till the last day of the window because now still some rumours we have with Tottenham and with Arsenal. These two clubs are really interested in Aouar. Arsenal as you know so well they wanted him and they are still keeping an eye on his situation. But it is now important for Arsenal to sell players.”

Aouar is available for transfer this summer, with reports in France claiming that the midfielder’s poor attitude has prompted Lyon’s sporting director Juninho to actively look for a buyer before the end of the month.

It is believed that the 22-year-old could be signed for just €25m (£21m) but, as Romano points out, Arsenal will need to raise funds through player sales following the arrivals of Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale.

A right-back and a striker are said to be the London club’s two priorities in the transfer market, so where Aouar fits into their plans, we shall have to wait and see.
