Arsenal’s relationship with the agent of Romeo Lavia could give them an “advantage” over Chelsea in the race to sign the Southampton midfielder, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The Belgian reporter claims that Emeka Obasi will be a key figure in transfer negotiations. He also represents Bukayo Saka and Tavolieri feels the Gunners may be able to use him to help persuade Lavia to make the switch to the Emirates:
Emeka Obasi’s persuasive power inside #ArsenalFC has been increasing after Bukayo Saka renewal, and these relationships could give a little advantage to push #AFC Lavia’s deal. Interest is real. But I understand that #Chelsea -who met father’s Lavia- still believe in his chances. pic.twitter.com/mTYIAcOyuk

As Tavolieri points out, Chelsea have been making inroads of their own, having already been in contact with Lavia’s father so this could go either way, even with Obasi’s presence in talks.
How much will Lavia cost?
Manchester City do have a buyback clause worth £40m which could be triggered next year and it is believed that the Saints want a figure above that amount to sell this summer.
A fee in the region of £50m could well be enough for the Championship side to sell Lavia, but they may be persuaded to offload the 19-year-old for slightly less than that asking price.
Are their other rivals for Lavia’s signature?
As already mentioned, City do have a vested interest in the Belgian international, but they are not expected to make make an effort to re-sign him just a season after letting him leave for Southampton.
Liverpool have also been suggested as potential suitors in recent weeks but it does appear as if this will be a straight fight between the Gunners and Chelsea for Lavia’s services, barring any last minute interventions.
