Jorge Mendes Tasked With Selling £61m Rated France Ace As Arsenal Are Made Favourites To Land Him

Atletico Madrid have employed super-agent Jorge Mendes to help offload Thomas Lemar in the January transfer window, according to Marca.

The Spanish publication reports Atletico’s best hope of recouping the €72m (£61m) they paid for the France international is to sell him to an English Premier League team.

Mendes has been tasked with finding a club for Lemar in England, with Arsenal currently favourites to land the 24-year-old.

The Gunners were tipped as a possible destination when it was first revealed that Atletico were willing to sell the Frenchman. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean they would have the funds to finance a transfer.

Arsenal originally tried to sign Lemar back in the summer of 2017 but a £90m move could not be completed before the transfer window closed.

The winger’s record in Spain would suggest, however, that he isn’t anywhere close to the sort of form which made him one of Europe’s hottest properties two years ago. He has not scored or provided an assist in 21 appearances this campaign.
