Arsenal have been looking for a left winger to fill in the gap that had Wenger improvise on several occasions for the past couple of seasons. The French boss tried using Ozil in that position but the German lacked the speed and the defensive qualities to handle such a change. Cazorla was also featured on the left side but clearly felt more at home down the middle of the pitch rather than pushed into the far side of the field. At some point things were looking good with Arsenal closing in on Reus, but negotiations failed after the Gunners tried avoiding paying the German’s buy-out clause.

According to Squawka, a new opportunity emerges for Wenger who might now be able to secure the services of Italian wonder kid, Stephan El Shaarawy. The 22 year old who looked like the most promising player to come out of AC Milan’s Primavera division has been struggling a little lately. However he made his debut while only 19 and since then he has still managed to appear 102 times for the Italian side. Seen as the next big thing in European football he was also affected by injuries which so far have kept him from quite developing into the brilliant player everyone expects him to be.

Arsenal could now have the chance to jumpstart his career after rumors have it he will be leaving Milano. If the former Champions League winners do manage to sign Jackson Martinez, El Shaarawy is very likely to leave. Not sure though if Wenger should go through and make a bid for the Italian international who looks like a real gamble right now. The problem is that he could also represent a true opportunity Arsenal might miss once again.
