‘I’ve Been Told’ Journalist Provides Latest Update On Arsenal’s Swoop For Gabriel Magalhaes

Arsenal are interested in Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes but he has not agreed to move to the Emirates, according to Goal‘s Charles Watts.

Reports in France had claimed that the Brazilian had already decided on making the switch to the Gunners but speaking about the transfer, Watts says it isn’t as far along as some have made out:

“The situation in terms of Lille at the moment is that they haven’t accepted any offers yet, they’re keeping all options open.”

“There are very strong reports in France that emerged yesterday that Gabriel has now chosen Arsenal and has set his sights firmly on them after talks this week. I’ve been told that is perhaps not the case and is going a little bit far. I wouldn’t get too excited just yet, but there is certainly interest.”

Manchester United, Everton and Napoli are also believed to be after Gabriel, and the news that Lille haven’t accepted any bids for the 22-year-old means it is very much anyone’s guess where he will end up this summer.

What is clear, though, is that head coach Mikel Arteta is actively looking to revamp his defence ahead of the new season.

With William Saliba having finally joined the club, Arsenal could well have an entirely new centre-back partnership going into the new campaign if the London club do manage to finalise a deal for Gabriel.
