“It will at least end their trophy run” – Arsenal fans react as Wenger linked with vacant Madrid job

Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts after Arsene Wenger has emerged as a shock contender to take the vacant managerial position at Real Madrid.

Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane stepped down from his role as the Bernubeu this morning – only days after guiding his side to their third consecutive Champions League trophy.

And the rumour mill is already churning as to who could be the Frenchman’s replacement.

A host of names have been thrown into the mix, including Chelsea’s Antonio Conte, and Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone – Real president Florentino Perez is understood to be a long term admirer of the Argentine.

However it is none other than Arsene Wenger who is favourite to succeed Zidane at the Bernabeu.

Wenger left Arsenal at the end of last season over 22-years in charge of the club, however it understood to be on the hunt for a new job in Europe.

The veteran manager has previously turned down the opportunity to manage Real over the past two decades despite indicating his desire to work under Perez, however now as a free agent, he could make that long-term ambition come true.

Whether the Madrid fans want to see the Frenchman as their new boss remains to be seen, but the Arsenal fans certainly do …
