It is time for Arsenal to get transfer priorities right

Arsene Wenger is making the right noises in the transfer market and why it is exciting to see reported bids for the likes Mbappe and Lacazette, the real transfer priority for Arsenal this summer is keeping the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and the Ox at the football club.

I know a lot of Arsenal fans will probably disagree with me on this, but signing the two French strikers will mean nothing and simply paper over the cracks. We have to be concerned that the aforementioned have not only signed an extension, but are showing no real desire to commit themselves to the club. With the greatest respect do you think the likes of Mbappe are honestly going to join us – if they know the likes of Ozil and Sanchez are planning to leave? The crux of the matter is that if they do not want to stay then its clear they have lost belief in the manager and that the club can challenge for the big prizes. Even more concerning is reports this morning that the Ox is happy to see out the last year of his contract and move on a free.

I think Wenger has got this all wrong and rather than gallivanting with Gazidis around France in trying to tie up these deals, they need to sit down in Highbury House and work out the kind of contracts that are ultimately going to keep this trio at the club. They are playing the dangerous game of assuming that buying these players will entice them to stay at the Emirates and defy any real logic. Sanchez clearly wants out as he has proven this week in interviews at the Confederation Cup and that should be sending alarm bells to all at the club.

Wenger and co need to act now and work out how the hell they keep this current squad together before adding to it. Knowing us I can see us signing the likes of Lacazette and instead of Ozil and Sanchez providing the chances for the Frenchman, it will be left to someone like Aaron Ramsey. Scary right? It is time to get our transfer priorities right before it is too late.
