Is Ospina The Right Choice For The Champions League?

While there was not much to question regarding Wenger’s choices for the line-up against PSG, there was some doubt about who should defend the Gunners’ goal. While Ospina is world-class, he is slightly below Cech when it comes to confidence and overall performance.  Apparently that does not matter right now as Wenger has already reached an agreement with his two stoppers, agreement which most likely kept the Colombian at the Emirates this year. There were rumors that he is looking to leave, rumors which had some support given the fact that he is very valuable to be a substitute. It seems that he will be given the main role in the Champions League and honestly, seeing last night’s performance, no one should argue with that.

“We have a rule that the keepers know for the season. It’s important to have clear rules. If they change, I’ll tell them. It’s down to performances. On what he delivered tonight, he has the right to stay in the team for the next Champions League game.” – Wenger said

“Maybe it was his most influential game. Wenger added.  At decisive moments, when he could have conceded a penalty, or when he came out with a good header at the start of the second half.”

“I can give them both games. If they do not play, you can’t keep two world-class goalkeepers. He showed his detractors that he is a very good goalkeeper. Last year he made a mistake and everyone jumped all over him. He showed what he’s about tonight.”

“We as a team take every opportunity, we work hard for that. This was a good match to show what I can do. For me, I need to work hard and be ready for every chance when I get to play. “

“For us it was the biggest match of the group to play against Paris Saint-Germain, although of course we respect all the other teams in the group. It is a good draw and we can build on that but there’s a long way to go.” [Quotes provided by Sky Sports]

Hopefully juggling between the two keepers will not affect the overall performance of the team.
