Is Morata The Right Striker For Arsenal?

Even though Higuain, Ibarahimovic, Cavani or Aubameyang have been linked to Arsenal, none of the rumors sound as achievable as that of the Spain international, Alvaro Morata. According to the Daily Star, the 23-year-old comes with a £23million release clause and there is the complication of Real Madrid reportedly having a buy-back option. Even if he is under contract until 2020, the fact that he is Juve’s 3rd choice right now gives him little reason to stay in Serie A. Even so, he finished this season with 47 appearances in which he scored 12 goals and provided 12 assists. The problem is that the player who he should be replacing had better numbers. Giroud made 53 appearances, scored 24 goals and provided 6 assists. Basically, the two are very similar, with the biggest difference being measured in experience/age. While Morata would be a catch for a team in need of a strong box striker who dominates even the strongest of defenders, he is not the one to boost Arsenal’s scoring rate.

Fans are expecting someone quick, spectacular and very efficient. Most experts say this is what the Gunners have been missing and it is easy to agree. Getting the responsibility of scoring off of the midfielders’ shoulders and allowing them to focus on assists and on creating goal situations would have a massive impact on the game. Knowing that after you leave 2-3 players behind your assist turns into a goal does a lot for someone like Sanchez or Ozil. Again, Morata is a good striker and he is probably worth the money but currently he does not fit in at what is needed at the Emirates. He would be a decent future replacement for Giroud but there’s no point in acquiring him right now. Hopefully, Wenger has his eyes set on someone to compete with or complement Giroud, someone ready to score more than 20 Premier League goals in one season. One more thing worth considering is a player who has a good injury record.
