Is Leicester’s Form Turning Arsenal Towards The Bundesliga?

Most of the transfer news involving Arsenal are related to Leicester players these days. The Foxes have the footballers who can fill in almost all of the gaps Wenger needs to fill so it`s only normal for him to engage in negotiations with the Premier League winners. Mostly it`s about the attack where Vardy and Mahrez would represent a definite boost in efficiency. Unfortunately, just as things were become clear in terms of Vardy’s future, the England international decided to postpone any discussion until after Euro 2016. Mahrez’s move to the Emirates is closely linked to the future of his teammate so it is very likely that either of the two move to London. Then there’s N’Golo Kante who was recently praised by Wenger in one of his statements. The French international has a more introverted personality and tends to stay away from speculation. Up until now he hasn’t made any comment on the rumors that link him to Arsenal. All the hype about the Gunners transferring from Leicester might be misplaced as a move is no longer looking imminent.

With that in mind, two other rumors might require to be taken more seriously. First there’s that of Ricardo Rodriguez who insist he’d be let go by Wolfsburg. Up until now the only possible destination seems to be North London where the 23-year-old is expected to become Monreal’s rival. Even though the Spaniard just extended his stay at the Emirates until 2019, he is going to be 31 next year and it is always best to start early in terms of finding a replacement. Rodriguez is no longer interested in playing for the German side and would probably accept starting off as a substitute. Xhaka’s arrival to Arsenal could weigh in heavily when it comes to convincing the left-back to join the Gunners even though his spot in the starting eleven is not a sure thing. The Swiss international has even posted pictures of him and Rodriguez on their way to Euro 2016, pictures which fueled transfer rumors even more.

The second rumor which should be taken a bit more seriously is that regarding Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Dortmund’s midfielder who turned 27 this January is keen on leaving the Bundesliga especially now that Hummels is no longer with the team, Aubameyang is close to the Premier League, Gundogan has joined Manchester City and Marco Reus is one of Europe’s hottest transfer targets. According to TalkSport, the Armenian international who has 1 year left out of his contract, is refusing a contract extension. The big question is if he would find a place to fit in at Arsenal. He plays a similar position to that of Ozil or Sanchez. If he is not taking on the role of an attacking midfielder, he is a second striker and rarely a winger. Because of that, as tempting as it may be, it could be a waste of money to sign this player. He is currently valued at about £20million which would be enough to bring in a solid striker next to Giroud who does not have much competition now that Welbeck will be out for so long due to injury.
