Is It Time For Olivier Giroud To Say Goodbye?

Is It Time For Olivier Giroud To Say Goodbye?

The answer to this question is actually “No”. Why? Because as inconsistent as Giroud may have been this season, he is one amazing weapon to have around. He went through some tough times at the Emirates but he bounced back and always seemed to give it his best. The solution is not to sell but to think of Giroud as an option. An option who brings strength to the attack, who can score if thrown in the battle and a striker who offers something different to the other Arsenal strikers. Sure, the Frenchman hasn’t scored in 12 out of his last 13 games but who is to say he would not have done better if Santi Cazorla had not got injured so early in the season?

Arsenal’s striker still has 2 years left of contract and honestly, he should get an extension. Having him around for a couple more years could not do any harm. Currently there are not many true no.9s to get, not with his experience at least. He is a member of his national team, he is a hard worker and he does not cave under pressure.

Wenger just needs to find a solution up front considering the fact that now, the Gunners only have Giroud and Welbeck who is pretty much a different version of the 29-year-old Frenchman. Welbeck is also a strong striker who can do a great job whenever thrown into the battle. As problematic as Arsenal’s lot might seem, there’s no bigger need than the need for a striker right now. With a solid attacker and Giroud and Welbeck as other options, Arsenal will do much better next season. Seeing how things played out during the past three seasons, we might expect to see a £40million+ No.9 join the Gunners. Regardless of who that is, Wenger needs someone to keep up with Aguero, Kane, Lukaku and very possibly, Costa and Martial. Sanchez looks capable of doing so but it would be a waste of his talent to move him up front. He seems to like coming in off the wide positions.

Honestly, out of all the rumors linking big names to Arsenal, none look like a perfect fit. There is someone who most people do not think of too much of. It’s Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi. He scored 20 goals and provided 10 assists this season. He is Belgian which most likely means he will have no problem adapting to the Premier League. He is fast, strong and efficient and he is already a member of his national team at the age of 22. That says a lot when you consider he has competition in Lukaku, Benteke and Origi. This youngster is definitely worth a shot as he looks like a solid investment, an investment that could help take Arsenal to the top spot in the Premier League.
