Ajax fullback Devyne Rensch has said that he won’t be leaving the Eredivisie side this summer, despite links to Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.
Rumours about a move to the Premier League surfaced in the Dutch media last month but, in a recent interview, the 20-year-old made it clear that he intends to stay at his current team for at least two more years:
“I definitely have ambitions and goals for the future. But I’d rather keep this one to myself. I will be with Ajax until mid-2025. I’m not done here yet and I still want to show a lot here.”
Rensch’s contract does expire in 2025 so whether he intends to see out his current deal and leave on a free, or whether he expects to sign an extension and then be sold on, we shall have to wait and see.
The Gunners are believed to be in the market for a right-back, with Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo having been heavily linked in recent days.
Rensch is a much less experienced player but he has impressed observers since breaking into Ajax’s first team. He is extremely versatile, as he is both-footed so, while most of his games have been on the right-hand side of defence this season, he could potentially play at left-back or even centre-half.
