If United And Barca Agree Fabregas Deal, Will Arsenal Stand By And Let It Happen?

According to reports emerging in England, Manchester United have seemingly tabled a £26 million bid for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, despite the Spaniard reiterating his wishes to stay at the Catalan club, but Arsenal will have the upper hand due to a clause in the midfielder’s contract giving them first refusal on him.

Fabregas was subject to a lot of criticism when he left Arsenal in 2011 after Barcelona came calling. Arsene Wenger has had a great deal of influence on Fabregas’ career, and the Frenchman has said that he will not shy away of spending big, if players were available. United have already signed former Arsenal skipper Robin van Persie, and Fabregas playing for the Red Devils next season would be heartbreaking for Arsenal fans. United’s reported bid comes on the back of losing interest in bidding for Thiago Alcantara with Bayern Munich.

However, United’s interest does not necessarily imply that Fabregas wants to move to Old Trafford. When Arsenal allowed Fabregas to leave for Barcelona, they added a first-buy back clause in the contract, stating that the Gunners would have the first right to sign the player for a fee of £25 million, if the Spanish giants decided to sell him and of course assuming that Fabregas wants to rejoin the Gunners (a big assumption).

Ironically, United star Wayne Rooney has been linked with a move to Arsenal, and if Fabregas does sign for United this summer, with Rooney possibly moving to the Emirates Stadium, the Barclays Premier League will have an entirely new look to it. Rooney, who has always been associated with the Red Devils, would be playing for Arsenal, while Fabregas, once an ambassador for Arsenal, would be playing for United.

United have their bid for Fabregas on the table and Arsenal will surely have to lodge a large bid to have United let one of their longest serving stars leave the club, assuming that Wenger can even stomach dealing with United after the whole RVP affair.

According to MailOnline, United have lodged a bid as they must think they have a chance of completing the deal and they see the Spaniard as the perfect answer to their attacking midfield needs.

David Moyes is certainly keen on making an impact at Manchester United and trying to send out a message to his rivals – can you seriously see Arsenal standing by if Barca agree a deal with United for Fabregas?
