Ian Wright slams Gunners star

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has slammed striker Alexandre Lacazette after his performance against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Frenchman came off the bench for the Gunners in an attempt for Emery’s men to grab a winner, instead, he had a hand in Marcos Alonso’s winning goal for the Blues, ensuring a 3-2 victory for Chelsea.

Pedro and Alvaro Morata gave Chelsea a two-goal lead after just 20 minutes, before the Gunners pulled two back just before half-time in order to bring the game level.

From then the game was anyone’s to win, and Arsenal might have even deserved victory themselves. They definitely didn’t deserve to lose, but did so when Lacazette’s poor pass was intercepted by Eden Hazard who then set up Alonso for Chelsea’s winner.

Asked about Chelsea’s late winning goal, Wright said on Match of the Day: “They didn’t help themselves. It was a poor, sloppy bit of play from Lacazette.

“Talking about Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, they get on well, they play well together and they train, but where’s he passing to? Passing into danger.

“From there, Arsenal are in trouble. It’s a token gesture from Lacazette to close them down. He beats him very easily.

“There is no defence for that. If you watch Alonso, he’s right on the periphery but once he goes past Lacazette you’re really hoping [Lucas] Torreira might see him and pick him up.

“He doesn’t pick him up and when you consider how Arsenal get back into this game, how it started for them and how they got back into it, it really was quite a sloppy goal to give away, in respect to Lacazette’s poor play.”
