Ian Wright Singles Out One Arsenal Star Who Did “Fantastically Well” Against Villa

Ex-Arsenal striker Ian Wright has praised Bernd Leno for the way he performed in the 1-0 win against Aston Villa yesterday afternoon.

The German was deputising for Aaron Ramsdale, who had been ruled with a muscular injury before the game, and Wright said that the keeper put in an excellent display:

“Bernd Leno did fantastically well when he came [into the team] today.”

Leno had not played since the 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup back in January but he didn’t look rusty at all, despite some nervy moments with his kicking.

Admittedly, the 30-year-old didn’t have much to do in the first half but he got busier as the game went on with Villa pressing for an equaliser, and he did well with his late save from Philippe Coutinho.

Ramsdale is likely to be out for several weeks so Leno is expected to be in goal for Arsenal’s next match versus Crystal Palace after the international break, as well as against Brighton at the Emirates.
