Ian Wright Rates Arsenal’s Top Four Chances After Chelsea Victory

Arsenal legend Ian Wright is pretty bullish about his former club’s chances of finishing in the top four after seeing the Gunners secure a surprise 4-2 away win at Chelsea yesterday evening.

While he still believes that Tottenham have the easier fixtures heading into the final month of the season, Wright feels that Mikel Arteta’s side now have the momentum back in their challenge for Champions League qualification:

“You look at Spurs’s run-in and you’d probably fancy that. But you look at Arsenal today and what should give them a lot of impetus to keep going forward, especially with a Man United team that you don’t mind playing.”

“But what they did today [at Chelsea] and when they’re able to take those half chances and keep building on it and keep going, even when they do get pegged back, [means they can] go into any of those games believing that they can win them.”

“You have to, because at this stage of the season, if you don’t then you probably won’t. Nobody fancied Arsenal to beat Chelsea tonight and they went there and beat them so they should take a lot from that.”

It was an excellent result at Stamford Bridge last night, especially after three very worrying defeats against Crystal Palace, Brighton and Southampton. Things are not quite back on track yet but, if they do secure another three points against Manchester United, confidence in the team should be restored.

You do feel, though, that this battle for fourth will go down to the wire, and the result of the North London derby on May 12th could well prove pivotal in deciding who will be playing Champions League football next campaign.
