“I Have Told The Club Who I Am Talking To” 17M Rated Arsenal Target Reveals Transfer Discussions Are Underway

AZ Alkmaar captain Teun Koopmeiners has confirmed he is in talks with multiple clubs about a potential transfer this summer.

Reports in the Italian media earlier this week claimed that Arsenal, Napoli, Rennes and Roma were all interested in snapping up the 23-year-old, who was close to joining Atalanta earlier in the transfer window.

Koopmeiners not only admitted to past negotiations but he says he is in open dialogue with AZ as he continues discussions with other teams:

“I have told the club who I am talking to and how things are going. We have been in constant close contact when clubs have come forward. We have agreed that I will continue to report how my head is and that they indicate what they expect from me. That has been going very well so far.”

“There are clubs where I could have been by now, so to speak. But then more clubs came, that also plays a part. In that sense, it is a luxury problem, which makes it more difficult because you start talking and thinking again. Before all those talks are scheduled, days or weeks pass by again. The reactions of all the different parties also take time. But well, AZ knows which clubs are interested and want to get around the table.”

The Netherlands international is most likely being targeted by the Gunners as a potential replacement for Granit Xhaka. He is a holding midfielder by trade and a set-piece taker.

It is believed that AZ would be open to selling Koopmeiners for around €20m (£17m), which is the exact same fee that Arsenal are demanding from Roma for Xhaka.

Any movement on the Koopmeiners deal is, therefore, likely to be dependent on Roma returning with a satisfactory bid for the Gunners’ player.
