Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil was left out of the matchday squad entirely for the 1-1 draw against Manchester United last night. He is not believed to be on the club’s injury list but manager Unai Emery opted against naming him as a substitute at Old Trafford.
The Gunners boss has only selected the 30-year-old twice so far this season, playing just 142 minutes in total. However, Emery seems to prefer loan signing Dani Ceballos to add extra creativity in the final third of the pitch, rather than the German.
Supporters on Twitter are finding it hard to understand Emery’s treatment of the midfielder:
I don’t understand it.. we are missing his work going forward and that’s clear for all to see, playing torreia in that role ruins our defensive shape. Drop Xhaka play torreia deep and play Ozil in the 10.

It’s disgraceful, why not have him on the bench, why say he’s being rested one week and then not play him the next, Emery is cutting of his nose to spite his face.

yesterday @Arsenal definitely lacked a spark @MesutOzil1088 might have been able to contribute

Two things will get Emery the kick:
1. His personal beef with Ozil
2. Granit Xhaka— Nas (@KingNerron) 1 October 2019
ozil deserves a chance this season, him and ceballos in the midfield could be a good combo. you can argue he wasn’t too good last season but he deserves a chance with new teammates and a new season against teams with different systems

Disgraceful. Why make him one of the captains if you are going to keep messing him about. Some of Emery’s decision making is poor, not good enough at this moment.

Highest paid player isn’t even on the bench. Maud.

I don't care what their personal differences are. If ozil can help the team on the pitch he has to play or be on the bench. No matter what you think of him he is too good a player to leave out

if ozil started yesterday then we would have had 10 men.

Unfair and Unjustified

We needed him yesterday

Ozil was given his chance against Watford in the league and was selected as captain for the Carabao Cup match versus Nottingham Forest but he’s barely been used this season.
There a number of reports suggesting that Arsenal are weighing up loaning out the midfielder in the January transfer window, but last night’s game clearly showed that his creative talents are badly needed in the middle of the park.
