“I Don’t Understand How…” Ferdinand Claims Arsenal Were Robbed In Key Moment Against City

BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand believes Arsenal should have been awarded a penalty in the first half against Manchester City yesterday.

Ederson was not punished when he seemingly brought down Martin Odegaard in the box, with both the on-field referee Stuart Attwell and the VAR feeling that the Brazilian got the ball. Ferdinand was adamant that the decision should have been overturned:

“With VAR, I don’t understand how this was not given. In slow motion there, it’s clear and obvious there.”

The controversial decision was compounded by events that took place in the second half. City were given a penalty of their own after VAR noticed a pull on Bernardo Silva’s shirt in the box, while Gabriel was sent off after two soft yellow cards.

Rodri’s last-minute winner made it even more difficult to take, but Gunners supporters will be heartened by the quality of football on show from the home side. They will now be more confident than ever that Mikel Arteta’s side can finish in the top four this season.
