Ask a supporter what his or her club ought to do to improve performance on the pitch and you will get one of two answers:

a) Change the manager.
b) Buy several new players and get rid of the deadwood.

But what most commentators never do is question whether this works.

Now as part of the Untold Gooner News video project, we have done the analysis and found that in terms of transfers, the seven Premier League clubs that spent the most last summer, are all way below where they would have hoped to be.

When it comes to the effect of changing managers as Spurs have done this week in firing Mauricio Pochettino and replacing him with Jose Mourinho, of all the Premier League clubs to have changed managers in the last 18 months, only two out of ten have since made any progress.

The other eight clubs are all worse off than before the change!
