Higuain Fancies Arsenal Move

Real Madrid outcast Gonzalo Higuain has conceded that his future lies away from the Santiago Bernabeu, and confessed that Arsenal would not only provide a good setup, but also a league which would put the striker’s skills to test.

Higuain’s future has gained a lot of media attention this season, with the striker failing to show his best form under former boss Jose Mourinho. Despite having such a long career in the Spanish capital, the Argentine’s career at the club always remains in doubt. With the presence of stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema coordinating well up front, the front man has slipped into the shadows of the starting eleven.

The player’s unrest could be a part of the much publicized divide in the team, which led to the club’s failiures against Barcelona this season. Mourinho’s time at the club had glamour and success, winning the Liga BBVA in his second season, the Copa del Ray and Spanish Super Cup. However, the club have struggled to find form since, and keeping one of the club’s most loyal servants – Iker Casillas on the bench did not help the mood at the Bernabeu.

Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Higuain’s contractual situation for a while, and his striking abilities have impressed Arsene Wenger. However, the Gunners face heavy competition for the Argentine’s signature, with a host of clubs lined up for the striker. The fee being reported in the press is in the region of £20 million, which is a hefty amount considering the UEFA Financial Fair Play rules on the horizon.

It will be interesting to see whether Wenger opts to push a transfer for Higuain, or continue his interest in Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic. The Montenegro international has been linked with a move to Arsenal, with the Italian club confirming his wishes to leave. It seems hard to imagine that Wenger would sign both strikers, especially considering his newfound interest in Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

By the looks of things, at least one of these three strikers will most likely make the switch to the Emirates Stadium, which is good news for Arsenal fans, as each of them add world class quality into the squad.

According to the Metro, Higuain revealed, “There have already been offers and I hope that Madrid do the best for me and themselves.”

“Arsenal? They would suit me, I’m still young and I have goals.”

“There are many possibilities. I want to go to a league where I’ll be put to the test.”
