The agent of Lucas Torreira has denied reports that the Uruguayan international is looking to cut his loan short with Atletico Madrid.
There had been claims that Arsenal could use Torreira in a deal to sign Inter Milan attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen with the Gunners player moving in the other direction on loan.
However, when asked about the rumours, Torreira’s representative Pablo Bentancur said there had been no contact with the Serie A club. He also reiterated the 24-year-old’s desire to stay in Spain:
“I’ve had no contact from Inter for Torreira. I haven’t received any phone call. Torreira is an Atletico player, he’s very happy there and he won’t leave Madrid in January.”
While Eriksen’s switch to the Emirates always seemed unlikely, reports of Torreira’s potential move have been growing in recent weeks due to his lack of game time at Atletico.
The Uruguayan has made just four starts in all competitions for the La Liga side, with the likes of Valencia, Fiorentina and Torino all thought to be interested in him. From Bentancur’s comments, though, it appears he won’t be going anywhere this month.
