Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes there is a chance that Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus could outscore Erling Haaland in the Premier League this season.

While he is a former Gunners player, Merson has never hidden the fact that he is a Chelsea supporter and he has also questioned why the Blues didn’t compete for Jesus’s signature:

“Arsenal had Gabriel Jesus and you’re scratching your head. How did Arsenal get him? The kid is an out-and-out centre-forward, he may even outscore Haaland. He was unbelievable the other day, why didn’t Chelsea have a look?”

Jesus’s agent Marcelo Pettinati actually revealed a couple of weeks ago that Thomas Tuchel’s side did try and “hijack” Arsenal’s move for the player.

However, the Brazilian international had already given his word that he would make the switch to the Emirates. A LOT of hard work went into securing the forward’s signature. It is believed talks between technical director Edu and Pettinati started all the way back in November last year.

It was, therefore, unlikely, that Chelsea would have persuaded Jesus into changing his plans, and Gunners supporters will be hoping he bangs in the goals as frequently as Merson suggests.
