“He Is Better Than Kepa” Wright Raises Prospect Of Chelsea Snapping Up Arsenal Star

Arsenal legend Ian Wright says he is concerned that Chelsea may look to sign goalkeeper Emi Martinez after his excellent performances for the Gunners since the restart.

The Blues are keen on replacing current number one Kepa Arrizabalaga, and with Martinez expected to return to the bench now Bernd Leno is back fit, Wright feels Arsenal’s London rivals could come calling for the Argentinian international this summer:

“He will surely want to go and be a No 1 now. What frightens me is you look at someone like Frank [Lampard] and you look at what Chelsea’s doing, you just say to yourself, ‘Do you know something? Can we prise him away?”

“This is what worries me, simply because you look at what he’s done and how he plays, he is better than Kepa now.”

At the moment, it is not believed Chelsea hold any interest in signing Martinez. While the 27-year-old has certainly excelled in recent weeks, it would be a gamble on Frank Lampard’s part to sign a player who remains relatively inexperienced at the highest level. He has just 15 Premier League appearances to his name in his whole career, although he has certainly impressed when given the opportunity.

It is believed that the Blues three main goalkeeper targets are Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, Ajax’s Andre Onana and Manchester United’s Dean Henderson.
