Gunners In For Wolfsburg Attacking Midfielder

Arsene Wenger has no shortage of flair midfielders in his current squad but has still sent scouts to monitor Maximilian Arnold. Although the fans would like to see a new striker, and possibly the defence strengthened, Wenger is eyeing a move for the 19-year-old Arnold, according to the Mirror.

Arnold is a youth international player for Germany and has been capped at every level including the U-21’s, even though he is just 19. The attacking midfielder is tipped to be one of the future stars for Germany and, after the club-record purchase of Mesut Ozil, Wenger is keen to add another German to Arsenal’s ranks.

The report suggests that Arnold is contracted with the Bundesliga outfit only until 2015 and has a buy-out clause of £8 million inserted into his contract.

Wenger was previously interested in another Germany young player – Julian Draxler – but his excessive release clause put off Wenger. Arnold represents a more viable option for Wenger, who could only add the injured Kim Kallstrom to his squad in the January transfer window.

If a move for Arnold goes through, he will join the German contingent of Mertesacker, Ozil, Podolski and Gnabry who are currently part of Arsenal’s first-team squad.
