Gunners Fancy Bayern Midfielder?

The 25-year old Luiz Gustavo had a good campaign for Bayern last time around and was an important player all season as he put in solid performances for the Bavarians. His performances helped his team earn some serious collective rewards as they romped through the season in some style and achieved the incredible and unprecedented treble.

Incoming manager Pep Guardiola does seem to have a role of vital importance for Gustavo next season and is open to the idea of offloading him. Gustavo is also keen to feature regularly for a top European team playing in the UEFA Champions League next season, hence a sale to another top club within the continent could very well be on the cards. Though Bayern would not mind if they end up retaining him for next season, it is believed that their first preference would be to earn as much money as possible from the sale, rather than earn much lesser next summer when he will have just one year left on his contract.

This is where Arsenal step in, as Metro reveal that the Gunners have identified their defensive midfield as one area which needs to be shored up. They have been heavily linked with Everton’s Marouane Fellaini, however the Toffees’ huge asking price of £25 million is thought to put Arsenal off. They are therefore looking at other cheaper alternatives and their search has led them to Gustavo, who is available at a comparatively paltry £8 million.

We can expect this amount to not cause any kind of problems for Arsenal this summer, given the fact that they have a massive transfer budget made available to them. They are also understood to be trying hard to tie up a big money deal for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, which is thought to be in the region of £40 million. Therefore, manager Arsene Wenger would not think much to sign Gustavo for £8 million who can even provide some cover to the center-backs and the full-backs while simultaneously playing in defensive midfield.

Do you see Arsenal pulling this deal off as it is more suitd to their type of financial outlay?
