Gunners closing in on signing of young defender

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of young Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos, according to reports from Goal.

The PAS Giannina centre half – who is valued at around £2 million – has caught the eye of a number of clubs across Europe, including Arsenal, after an impressive start to his breakthrough season in the Greek Super League.

The 20-year-old made his mark on the first team at PAS towards the end of the last season, and has now become a regular in the starting XI for the Greek side, who currently sit in 10th in the league after 15 games.

League leaders Olympiakos are also understood to be interested, but it is the Gunners who lead the chase for his sought after signature.

Arsenal’s new chief scout Sven Mislintat has close links with the player’s agent from his time at Borussia Dortmund.

Such ties could prove pivotal in ensuring the defender moves to The Emirates before the end of the month.

Arsenal’s new scout Sven Mislintat has ties all over Europe and has been described as having a ‘diamond eye’ for young talent.

The Greece U21 international will hope to join a host of his fellow countrymen who have made the switch to Europe’s top divisions in recent years with Panagiotis Retsos, Kostas Manolas and Sokratis Papastathopoulos all now with Bayer Leverkusen, AS Roma and Borussia Dortmund respectively.

Mavropanos has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season, and has scored three goals.
