Guendouzi starts for Arsenal against Manchester City

Matteo Guendouzi will start for Arsenal this afternoon in Unai Emery’s first competitive game as manager.

The Gunners welcome reigning Premier League champions Manchester City to The Emirates in what is set to be an exciting afternoon of football in North London.

After a busy summer in the transfer market, Arsenal will be looking to kick off the season in style post Arsene Wenger, while City will be hoping to start the new campaign they way they ended the last.

All of Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham won their opening games this weekend, meaning the pressure is already on both sides not to drop points.

Unai Emery has named an experimental starting XI, opting to give Petr Cech the nod in goal ahead of £22 million summer signing Bernd Leno, while another of his summer additions, 19-year-old Matteo Guendouzi, also starts following an impressive pre-season campaign.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang starts up front, while Alexandre Lacazette is on the bench.

Manchester City make three changes from the side that beat Chelsea 2-0 in the Community Shield last week, with Ederson, Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling replacing Claudio Bravo, Phil Foden and Leroy Sane.
