Guendouzi Says His Impressive Start To Life At Arsenal “Is Just The Beginning”

Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi believes there is more to come from him after impressing during his first few matches for the Gunners.

Fans nominated the Frenchman as the club’s player of the month for August, and he has been ever-present in the starting eleven so far this campaign under Unai Emery.

He told the French media that playing for Arsenal is on a different level to when he was playing in the French second division with Lorient last season:

“It’s another world. Arsenal is a historic club, beautiful, world famous, one of the best in Europe with big stars in the team. It’s hard to tell but it’s really another dimension. Everything changed.”

“At the game level, it’s much more intense. In this English championship, there are great players from everywhere, it’s impressive.”

Guendouzi was surprisingly given the nod to start by Emery on the opening day against Manchester City, and he has gone on to perform well in the first team despite only being 19 years of age.

The Frenchman is, however, keen to capitalise on the opportunity he has been presented with and wants to show everyone what he can do in a Gunners shirt:

“It’s up to me to stay regular. This is just the beginning.”

Guendouzi could be in for an extended run in the first team after Lucas Torreira was injured on international duty. The Uruguayan had to be substituted in the 4-1 win over Mexico on Friday night. He is now described as a doubt for Arsenal’s match against Newcastle at the weekend.
