Great Performance, Unpleasant Outcome

Arsenal missed a great opportunity to make it to the quarter finals after a frustrating 90 minutes against Monaco. The French side clearly won the knockout phase at Emirates when they caught the Gunners off-guard. Wenger had an almost complete lot that made the miracle look possible. Unfortunately the Frenchmen held their own and did not allow Arsenal to find the net a third time.

The North Londoners made fans relive their performance from two years ago when they had a similar pattern. They lost at home against Bayern and managed to come close to a comeback in the second leg. Unfortunately, just like last time, their lack of focus on home turf ended up costing them a position among the top 8 European clubs.

It was a fair win for Arsenal who with a bit of luck could have eliminated Monaco. The Gunners did not allow their adversaries to send any shot on target and forced them to end the game with a 29% possession rate. Sending 17 shots towards goal was not the solution for Wenger’s side who could have solved the problem up until the middle of the second part of the game. Welbeck, Ozil and Giroud could not quite recover the goal difference. They lacked focus in front of goal and missed some great opportunities to help the team move through. All that is left now is for Arsenal to focus on the Premier League which will have them face Newcastle this Saturday and of course their defence of the FA Cup.
