Gooners praise former Dortmund duo after role in Watford win

Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to praise duo Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after their role in yesterday’s victory over Watford.

Both Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang were on the scoresheet as the Gunners ran out 3-0 winners at The Emirates, securing back-to-back wins for the first time since January.

Defender Shkodran Mustafi opened the scoring eight minutes in when he headed home from Mesut Ozil’s free-kick for his third goal of the season.

The Gunners were denied on a number of occasions in the first-half by Watford stopper Heurelho Gomes, with Mesut Ozil, Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all unable to make the host’s pressure tell.

Fifteen minutes after the break however Aubameyang doubled the Gunners’ lead, when he latched on to Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s through-ball to round Gomes and slot home for his third goal in an Arsenal shirt.

Provider then turned scorer when Mkhitaryan completed the scoring on 77 minutes, shortly after Troy Deeney missed from the penalty spot for the visitors.

After the victory, Arsene Wenger said speaking to BBC Sport: “It was a difficult game like you get in the Premier League. But overall the spirit and desire was good.

“The spirit kept us out of trouble. We dealt well with set-pieces, which is why they could not come back.”

Spirit aside however, the Arsenal fans think it might be something else which helped their side to victory over the Hornets …
