GoonerNews.com users reveal who the next Arsenal manager should be despite what the bookies are saying

Following the stunning news that Arsene Wenger would step down as Gunners boss at the end of the 2017-18 season, just over one week ago we posted a poll on our mobile and desktop sites asking GoonerNews.com users who they think should be the next Arsenal manager.

Given the 22 year reign of Arsene Wenger choosing a man to fill his shoes is not going to be an easy task as the Arsenal board must be fully aware.

In response to the question, “Who should be the new Arsenal boss?” we gave users six options including some of the big names currently doing the rounds.

The six options are comprised of 2 German coaches in World Cup winner Joachim Loew and former Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel; an Italian coach in Massimiliano Allegri who has 5 Serie A titles on his CV; former Arsenal midfielder – Spaniard Mikel Arteta; former Liverpool and Swansea City manager, current Celtic manager Northern Ireland’s Brendan Rodgers and current Bournemouth boss Englishman Eddie Howe.

It is interesting to note that at the time of writing Mikel Arteta is the heavy favourite with the bookies with Massimiliano Allegri a distant second favourite followed by Brendan Rodgers and Carlo Ancelotti. If you want to bet on the next Gunners’ manager you can utilise The portal bettingsites.ng for the latest odds.

Of the candidates we suggested only Rodgers and Howe have Premier League management experience.

In recent days Mikel Arteta has been reported as leading the race while the stories around Massimiliano Allegri continue to contradict with some saying the Italian has no interest in the job and some reporting he wants the job but is demanding total control of the club.

Regardless of who gets the job our userbase is comprised of Gooners from around the world who are loyal users of our sites and are dedicated Arsenal fans so it is interesting to see (again at the time of writing) that Massimiliano Allegri is the run-away favourite almost a full 60 percentage points ahead of Joachim Lowe in 2nd place. Mikel Arteta on 7.5% takes 3rd place just 2% ahead of Thomas Tuchel while Eddie Howe received a shade over 3% of the vote while Brendan Rodgers came in last with a mere 1.5% of the users choosing him – you can click on results in the widget below to see the results for yourself or go ahead and have your say by voting.

So what can we deduce from this? Well it is clear that Arsenal fans want an experienced manager with a solid CV of trophy wins. While Arteta has been recommended by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City after his couple of years as the City number 2 and seems to be getting a lot of press, there looks like there is no substitute for experience plus Italian coaches have traditionally done quite well when they take over top Premier League clubs with Antonio Conte and Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea plus Roberto Mancini at Manchester City good examples of that.

Hence Massimiliano Allegri is the big favourite. We shall see if Arsenal are indeed interested in the Juventus boss and if the Arsenal board can commit to a contract which Allegri will agree to – it is certainly going to be an appointment which will provoke plenty of reaction from fans.
