Arsenal have triggered their option to extend Nacho Monreal’s contract for a further year, according to reports in the English media.
The 32-year-old would have been available on a free transfer at the end of the season but it appears that the Gunners are keen to keep the Spaniard at the club.
Most Arsenal supporters on Twitter think keeping Monreal was the right decision:
Good choice, great servant and a very consistent player.

Great news!? Passion & experience. Still think our best left back when fit

Good, probably the most consistent player at the club over the last three years. We'll need that sort of experience if we're bringing through a new generation.

The fullback’s season has been curtailed by injury with hamstring problems keeping him out for 15 games so far this campaign.
Manager Unai Emery, however, still sees Monreal as part of his first-team plans with the defender having been a regular starter when he has been fit.
The former Spanish international has been linked with a return to his homeland with Athletic Bilbao having been interested in the left-back over the past year.
Monreal was born in Pamplona and is eligible to play for the Basque club.
